LEARNING

The purpose of learning is growth, and our minds, unlike our bodies, can continue growing as we continue to live.

Half Day Reverse Mainstream Prekindergarten
For Children with Disabilities
Linda Alvarez, Teacher
Karen Keenan, Teaching Assistant

This special program follows the same curriculum as the typical prekindergarten which includes High/Scope, BELL (Building Early Language and Literacy), and DECA (Devereaux Early Childhood Assessment). The program focuses on receptive and expressive language development as well as social skills.

Students are closely monitored with daily observations and anecdotal records to help plan daily activities based on the students' needs and interests. Activities may include puzzles, painting, the water and sensory table, outside play, exploration with musical instruments, storytime, and free choice to encourage students to explore materials, complete self-selected projects and engage in cooperative play. Additionally, shared reading is used to develop concepts, vocabulary awareness, phonological awareness and develop sensitivity to spoken language.
