Principal's Message...

Dear Parents and/or Guardians:

The faculty and staff at Norland Elementary School join me in welcoming you to the 2005-2006 school year. Whether you are parents of a child new to our school or returning parents, we are delighted to have you with us.

As a School Improvement Zone School, our school day is extended one hour and our school year begins one week earlier and ends one week later. This provides your child with extra assistance, and a jump-start on the school year. We are fortuneate to be a part of this innovative program, and this played a huge part in our success last year.

During the past year, our students, staff, and parents worked together to achieve the following goals:

Our School Accountability Grade improved from a "D" to a "B".

Our daily student attendance improved significantly. We were the number "2" school in the School Improvement Zone.

Student discipline referrals decreased dramatically.

This year, we would like to continue our upward progress towards achieving our goals. Please join us by encouraging your child to do his/her best everyday, communicating with his/her teacher and making sure your child comes to school everyday. One way you can assist your child is by joining the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). Research reveals that children who have parents who are involved at school, are more successful.

As you walk around our school, you will notice that our school was recently painted inside and outside. These changes only mirror the internal changes going on in the classrooms. We have extremely high expectations for your child, and our motto this year is "Educating Children Takes Everyone."

We are all looking forward to an exciting year. My door is always open to you to address any concerns you might have or if you just want to talk.
